The Alliance Française of Calgary is a small non-profit organization dedicated to teaching French and promoting the diversity of Francophone cultures. While we administer TEF and TCF exams, this represents only one part of our overall mission. We are currently the only authorized test centre in Calgary, despite a level of demand that would normally require the involvement of additional institutions.
We understand how important these exams are and how stressful it can be to secure a spot. We take this responsibility very seriously. Although we have already doubled our exam capacity and are working with partners to increase capacity in 2026, we can offer only a limited number of exam places, while demand reaches several hundred candidates per session. Our organization operates with limited resources, and only a few qualified staff members can operate exam administration. Under these conditions, the current situation is extremely difficult. In recent months, we have also faced an increasing number of abusive interactions directed at our staff. Such behavior is unacceptable and places significant pressure on our hard-working team.
As a result, we are temporarily pausing new registrations while we hold discussions with the relevant institutions to identify sustainable solutions in order to offer this service. As a small non-profit organization, we are not in a position to meet this growing demand without additional structural support. However, we remain committed to continuing to offer the TEF and TCF exams in Calgary for the community.
We truly wish we could accommodate everyone, but we are limited to the availability shown on our website. We sincerely appreciate your patience, understanding, and respectful cooperation.
The TEF (Test d'Evaluation du Français) is an internationnal assessment of proficiency in the French language. It is in particular used by Citizenship and Immigration Canada to assign points for the language factor when applying for citizenship or permanent residency. The test is suitable for individuals aged 16 and above. For immigration inquiries, please visit the CIC website.
Directed at candidates whose native language is not French and who wish to assess their level of French, the Test d'Évaluation de Français (TEF) can be utilized for various purposes, including academic studies, emigration, citizenship applications, and professional objectives.
The TEF consists of three compulsory tests, totaling 2 hours and 10 minutes, in multiple-choice question format (QCM), assessing:
Additionally, there are two optional tests, totaling 1 hour and 20 minutes:

Please note: The TEF and TEF Canada exams are open to all candidates regardless of their city of origin. However, the organization of
these exams requires the collaboration of several institutions, including the Chambre de Commerce et d’Industrie de Paris (CCIP). In
very rare cases, unforeseen technical issues may arise that could lead to the cancellation of a session at the last minute, independent
of the will of the Alliance Française of Calgary. The Alliance Française of Calgary cannot be held responsible for travel or
accommodation expenses incurred by candidates coming to Calgary to take the exam, whether the session is cancelled or not.
We strongly encourage you to register for the TEF at the authorized centre closest to your place of residence whenever
possible.
Read all the above information to ensure the test you choose matches your needs. Remember, the Alliance Française of Calgary and its staff are not liable for your test choice. For any doubts, consult the immigration services or a relevant authority. If you are interested in registering for other TEF tests, such as some parts of TEF Canada or TEF IRN, please contact us at tests@afcalgary.ca.
