Who are we?

In 1883, French visionaries like Louis Pasteur and Jules Vernes created an association with the goal of sharing the French language and culture. After more than a century, these ideals live on in more than 800 Alliances Françaises around the world. This network is the only language school recognized by the French government, but more than that, we are recognized as one of the best places to interact with the French culture!

This dream came to Calgary in 1947, when the Alliance Française of Calgary (AFC) was founded. The team of AF Calgary proudly continues with this mission, serving each of 1,200 students that come every year to learn and spend good times with us in our classes and cultural events, borrowing books from the biggest all-French library in western Canada.
