The Alliance Française of Calgary is delighted to welcome Kim Thúy, an acclaimed author known for her poetic and deeply moving narratives that explore themes of identity, migration, and memory.

Join us on Thursday, May 28th, at 6:30 pm in the Treehouse on the 3rd floor of cSpace for an engaging discussion in French. This event offers a unique opportunity to meet Kim Thúy and discover her literary journey and creative process.

Kim Thúy is celebrated for her evocative and intimate writing style, weaving personal history with universal themes of displacement, resilience, and belonging. Among her most notable works are:

  • Ru: A critically acclaimed novel recounting her experience as a Vietnamese refugee, blending fragments of memory with elegance and sensitivity.
  • Vi: A powerful novel that follows the journey of a young Vietnamese refugee navigating life between cultures.
  • Mãn: A poetic story about love, tradition, and Vietnamese culture.

Each participant needs to sign up individually using their own account.

The discussion will be moderated by Maëlys, Librarian at the Alliance Française of Calgary. The conversation will be held in French.

- About Kim Thúy -

Kim Thúy was born in Vietnam in 1968. At the age of 10 she left Vietnam along with a wave of refugees commonly referred to in the media as “the boat people” and settled with her family in Quebec, Canada. A graduate in translation and law, she has worked as a seamstress, interpreter, lawyer, and restaurant owner.

The author has received many awards, including the Governor General’s Literary Award in 2010, and was one of the top 4 finalists of the Alternative Nobel Prize in 2018. Her books have sold more than one million copies around the world and have been translated into 31 languages and distributed across 43 countries and territories. Kim Thúy lives in Montreal where she devotes her time to writing.
