The Collective Photography Exhibition
The Project
This collaborative photography exhibition is an initiative by the Alliance Française of Calgary, open to both emerging and experienced photographers. It brings together diverse perspectives through the lens, capturing how we focus on a detail, a gesture, a texture, or a moment that might otherwise go unnoticed. Whether you’re using a professional camera or shooting intuitively with a phone, this is an invitation to share your vision and contribute to a collective visual dialogue.
Whether you’re using a professional camera or shooting intuitively with a phone, this is an invitation to share your vision and contribute to a collective visual dialogue. Selected photographs will be printed and exhibited at the Alliance Française, and may also be shared online or in print materials, always with proper credit to the artist.
Submission Deadline: May 10, 2026
Exhibition Dates: June 5 – June 25, 2026
The theme of this exhibition is Focus On bringing attention to a specific detail or moment within the frame.
-FOCUS ON-
This exhibition invites photographers to zoom in, crop, and highlight something specific: a smile, an object, a corner of a building, a shadow, a pattern, or any small fragment of life. The idea is simple: bring attention to what matters in a single frame!
We are looking for images where composition, detail, and perspective guide the viewer’s eye and tell a story. Moments where the ordinary becomes extraordinary when observed closely.
What we’re not looking for:
- Wide shots without a clear focus or intention
- Generic selfies or group portraits
- Overly staged or heavily filtered images
- Pictures that don’t invite the viewer to look closer and discover
- Generic holiday or postcard-style photos
- Images that don’t reflect the theme’s calm and contemplative tone
We’re not seeking spectacle, but attention, curiosity, and intention. Let your lens zoom, crop, and clarify your focus. Show us what you choose to highlight, and why it matters.
Submission Requirements
- You may submit up to 3 high-resolution JPEG images (300 dpi recommended)
- Photographs should reflect the theme: quiet moments, soft light, and a sense of stillness
- Images must be original photographs taken by the participant. AI-generated images or heavily AI-manipulated visuals are not accepted, as the exhibition aims to showcase authentic photographic work
- Please only submit images you fully own, with consent from any recognizable individuals
- Selected works will be printed and exhibited at the Alliance Française
Note: Our jury will review all submissions and select the works based on their relevance to the theme and how they contribute to the coherence of the overall exhibition. Not all submitted photographs will be included in the final exhibition, but we sincerely thank all participants for sharing their work and contributing to this collective project.
