Certifications recognized by the French, Québec and Canadian governments.

The Test d’Évaluation de Français (TEF) is a reliable instrument for measuring your skills in French and is recognized by the Canadian Government. It is a widely recognized test offered by the Paris Chamber of Commerce (CCIP) that will allow you to demonstrate your fluency.

Structure of the examination

TEF

The TEF is directed at candidates, whose native language is not French, wishing to assess their level of proficiency in French. It can be used for the purpose of academic studies, emigration to a French-speaking country, citizenship applications, professional or personal purposes.

3 compulsory tests (2h10) in QCM format (multiple choice questionnaires) assessing:
- Reading comprehension - 60min, 50 questions, 300 points
- Listening comprehension - 40min, 60 questions, 360 points
- Lexique & Structure - 30 minutes, 40 questions, 240 points

2  optional tests (1h20):
- Written production - 60min, dealing with 2 subjects, 450 points
- Oral production (conversation) - 20min, dealing with 2 subjects, 450 points.

TEF Canada

The TEF Canada is directed specifically at candidates wishing to assess their level of proficiency in French for immigration applications to Canada or for Canadian citizenship applications.



2 compulsory tests (1h40) in MCQ format (multiple choice questionnaires) assessing:
- Reading comprehension - 60min, 50 questions, 300 points
- Listening comprehension - 40min, 60 questions, 360 points


2  optional tests (1h20):
- Written production - 60min, dealing with 2 subjects, 450 points
- Oral production (conversation) - 20min, dealing with 2 subjects, 450 points.

For more information about which test(s) required for immigration, citizenship or other purposes, please inquire with the government, immigration services or the appropriate institution.  Our employees do not have the training to answer those questions.


Registration Process

  • Registration form has to be received by email at info@afcalgary.ca and the fee paid a minimum of 10 business days prior to your desired exam date.

  • Exam sessions are usually held once to twice a month on Fridays (e-TEF & e-TEF Canada). It is very important to confirm with us the availability of your examination date at info@afcalgary.ca or 403 245 5662. If you wish to write the TEF on a different day than the ones offered, contact us to arrange another day and a fee will apply. 

  • Prior to registering for the test, please read the Manuel du Candidat (TEF or TEF Canada) and the conditions of registrations and examination of the e-TEF and e-TEF Canada.

  • Download and complete the form, send it along with a copy of a piece of ID (passport, national ID) to info@afcalgary.ca and pay the registration fee. Choose the form for the version of the e-TEF you wish to take.

Fees

Please note that all fees must be paid prior to registering to a session. The prices are identical whether you choose to take the TEF or the TEF Canada. The form you send us will validate your registration in either one of the two versions of the exam (TEF or TEF Canada).
