Discover 3 photographers from Senegal and Mauritania

This Summer, the Alliance Française of Calgary and cSPACE would like to introduce you to an outdoor exhibition showcasing 3 talented artists from Western Africa under the theme Villes & Visages. The exhibition is composed of 24 inspiring photographs taken by artists who aimed at capturing reality and represent it under their truth. This exhibition will take place as part of the celebration of ALBERTA CULTURE DAYS.

Malika Diagana

Born in Mauritania, her mother being from Cape Verde and her father being Soninke, Malika Diagana (Linguereart) has a multicultural background. While studying graphism and videomaking in Dakar, she discovers photogrpahy. She then decided to practice only Black and White photography and chose to follow the mantra "Photography means writing in lights". Learn more. 

Mamadou ly

He is an autodidact photographer who started taking pictures following the works of  experienced and peer artists, while letting his inspiration flourish in the streets and in the daily life scenes. He then participated in a few collective exhibitions, including Dak'art Contemporary Art Biennale at Dakar in 2010 and 2012 . Learn more. 

Ibrahima Mbengue

Born in the centre of Dakar, the capital of Senegal, with brothers passionate about photography, it was only a matter of time before he became a photographer himself. He started as an event photographer and then further his exploration of the medium through photography and cinema. He is now committed to pursue his carreer as an artist. Learn more. 

The Alliance Française is proud to make you discover emerging artists! The exhibition will be up until September 24th and is presented with the collaboration of cSPACE.
