Kim Thúy left Vietnam at 10 with the boatpeople and moved with her family to Québec. Graduated from translation and law studies, the author worked as a sewer, an interpret, an lawyer, a restaurant owner and food critic for radio and TV. Kim Thúyreceived many prizes, including the Prix littéraire du Gouverneur général 2010, and was one of the 4 finalists at the Alternative Nobel price in 2018. Her books, of which more than 730,000 were sold worldwide, are translated in 29 languagues and 39 countries and teritories. Kim Thúy lives in Montréal and is today fully devoted to writing.
