Celebrate National Indigenous Day!

On Tuesday, June 21st at 6:00 p.m., join us to watch the film Kuessipan, a 2019 French-Canadian drama directed by Myriam Verreault. An adaptation of the novel by Naomi Fontain, the film centres on Mikuan and Shaniss, two young Innu women in Uashat-Maliotenam, whose lifelong friendship is tested when one of them falls in love with a white man and plans to move away.

Synopsis:
Two girls grow up as best friends in an Innu community. While Mikuan has a loving family, Shaniss is picking up the pieces of her shattered childhood. As children, they promised each other to stick together no matter what. But as they’re about to turn 17, their friendship is shaken when Mikuan falls for a white boy, and starts dreaming of leaving the reserve that’s now too small for her dreams.

Film in French and Innu with English subtitles.
