Le Grand Meaulnes, Alain-Fournier
On Wednesday March 21st at 5:30pm, join us for our Book Club at cSPACE. Discover or re-discover the novel Le Grand Meaulnes by Alain-Fournier. This will be the opportunity to read a classic of French literature, published in 1913.
Augustin Meaulnes and François Seurel are classmates in a small French village. One day, during a getaway, Augustin finds a mysterious domain where a party is taking place. It celebrates the wedding of Frantz and Valentine. There, he encounters Yvonne, Frantz's sister, with whom he instantly falls in love. But Valentine never shows up, the party is canceled, and now Augustin has a single thing on his mind: how can he find Yvonne again?
A Bildungsroman about the passage from adolescence to adulthood, a story of love and friendship, a tale that sometimes sounds like a dream, this novel has everything to be ranked among the greatest books of the past century.
