French Courses The AFC is part of the world's largest network of French language schools: 1075 Alliances Françaises in 135 countries. Expertise and professionalism in teaching French in Calgary since 1947. Experienced and qualified French and French-speaking instructors who benefit from the latest teaching tools and methods. Classes limited to 12/14 students with active participation. Courses focused on communication skills and based on the Common European Framework for Languages, a standard reference adopted by dozens of educational systems worldwide. Cultural Environment The AFC provides a complete Francophone experience for a total immersion in the French language and culture. The AFC hosts cultural events each month— more than 30 events a year — to promote French culture and intercultural exchanges. The AFC offers a wide range of services so that students can diversify their knowledge of the French language and culture: conversation courses, writing skills courses, pronunciation workshops, cooking workshops, wine tastings...
Media Library More than 10,000 items including novels, essays, magazines, CDs, DVDs for children, adults, learners and teachers can be consulted on site or borrowed by members. More than 500 items from level A1 to level C2 in the French Learner Library to help students during the learning process. Search, reserve and renew with the bilingual catalog online. An accessible place for all, open 50 hours a week, with a bilingual, qualified and helpful staff. Borrow up to 10 items for up to 4 weeks.
Mission of the AFC
The Alliance Française of Calgary's mission is to promote the French language, the Francophone cultures and diverse intercultural exchanges through the following:
- Providing French language courses for children, adolescents, adults, individuals, groups, corporate clients and federal agents to support second language acquisitions and to contribute to multilingualism.
- Granting internationally recognized French Language Diplomas as a means to increase the recognition and value of life-long language learning.
- Hosting workshops and training for French teachers as well as extra-curricular activities for students to support the work of language teachers and administrators in Calgary.
- Establishing and maintaining a Bilingual Media Library of books and multi-media materials for children, adults, teachers and students to bring life French-language literature and to stimulate debate.
- Hosting artistic and cultural events to promote diversity and multiculturalism, including cinema, theatre, music, readings and more.

The vision of the Alliance Française of Calgary is to create a space for exchange and dialogue between different linguistic communities to promote cultural diversity and discovery of Francophone cultures, and to support life-long language learning and multilingualism.
